Learn How to Meditate

Learning how to meditate can be viewed as one of the most difficult, yet ultimately one of the most rewarding practices you can undertake.

Whilst many people feel a real excitement of learning how to meditate for the first time they tend to stick with it and make it an everyday lifelong practice.

You should really think about this being part of your daily routine to get the full benefits of this wonderful practice, I can tell you from my experience it was hard to get the discipline to practice every day, but I managed it through being bed ridden when unwell and it was a blessing in disguise

The most important factors in learning how to meditate are: relaxation, allocating regular time, good breathing and right posture are all important. But none of these factors are nearly as important as having a good space and time that is your own.

If you want to learn meditation, it is better to practice in the same quiet, meditate in a solitary location at the same time for 10 minutes each and every day than to practice meditation for three hours once a week. But for those who dont seem to have the time a routine of at bedtime works wonders.

Meditation, after all, is all about regulating and relaxing your thoughts. It can be a liberating experience filling your body with peace, love and tranquility. But it is important that you are focusing on the positive and allowing any negative thoughts or feelings to be washed away. Learning how to meditate can be frustrating at time but the more you relax the easier and more pleasant an experience you will have.

Moving on from there, there are many forms of meditation; some of my personal experience often focuses deeply with breath. Other people agree the importance of breathing properly when you meditate. Some people call it breathing a meditation in its own right.

The very first thing that you should do when learning how to meditate is to focus on your own breath. This may sound simple, but it is not easy. You cannot learn how to meditate until you can learn how to direct your focus inward.

Nonetheless, you do not need to master meditation before you start to feel the benefits. They will start almost immediately. Although the rewards of knowing how to meditate are inexpressible, just studying meditation itself will greatly increase the quality of your life.

If you want to learn how to meditate; meditation books, meditation CDs, and meditation videos should be your first step as they are an easy way to get the basics and learn the various forms of mediation that are available, it will make you more knowledgeable and comfortable with the art form. I highly recommend the following book Meditation for Self Enlightenment and also Easy Meditation to get you started, you will also find many resources at the end of the book to help you. It will also make you feel more at ease to discuss meditation with people in forums and elsewhere.

Once you have got comfortable reading a good meditation book or listening to a "How to meditate" cd then I strongly suggest if you wish to make it a part of your life to go and find a teacher. A teacher is indispensable if you want to make any progress in learning how to meditate. Fortunately, almost every major city has several schools of meditation operating within it.

You can learn how to meditate from a student of Buddhist meditation, transcendental meditation, or one of many other schools. Although there is a lot of disagreement about what school is the best, any of them will give you great benefits. From there, it is simply a matter of learning what works for you.

It is however not necessary to find a teacher - which is perhaps just a more pleasant and straight forward route. You can simply teach yourself how to meditate or follow whatever route takes your fancy.

Whatever route you choose learning how to meditate should be an enjoyable journey!
